Beth

Tried and tested

A natural cow hoof, this is a hard, hollow, very long lasting chew for dogs that like a proper challenge. Like a horn, the hollow centre can be stuffed with something tasty to make it last even longer, which is Beth's favourite way to use them. Beth, one of our IMDT qualified trainers, recommends hooves for confident adult chewers, and for puppies or gentler dogs she suggests using them stuffed as a supervised lick and gnaw rather than something to crack. Best for medium breeds and up.

About this chew

Description

Cow hooves are a natural, single ingredient chew, very durable and long lasting, low in fat and naturally hollow. Stuff the centre with paste, wet food or a smaller treat and it becomes a long lasting enrichment tool for dogs of all ages. For strong adult chewers it's a hard, slow wearing chew, for puppies and gentler dogs it's best used stuffed as a supervised lick and gnaw.

Feeding & chew guidance
Low fat and mostly gnawed rather than eaten, dental risk is the bigger concern, not calories. Better as an occasional treat than a daily one. Count it into the day's food rather than adding it on top.
Storage
Keep somewhere cool and dry, out of direct sunlight. Once the bag is open, reseal it or tip it into an airtight tub.
Safety & supervision
This is a hard chew, so please choose it with care. As with any hard chew there is a risk of tooth damage, so it suits confident, sensible chewers rather than dogs that bite down aggressively. For puppies and gentler dogs, use it stuffed as a supervised lick and gnaw rather than something to crack. Always supervise, provide fresh water, choose a size larger than your dog's mouth, and take it away once it wears down to a size that could be swallowed. If your dog has any dental issues, check with your vet.
